Duane Bergey

Duane L. Bergey, 83, of Kalkaska, died Wed. Sept. 7, 2011 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care. He was born Nov. 17, 1927 in Leota, Michigan, the son of LeRoy and Hazel (Henry) Bergey. Duane was a school bus driver for the Kalkaska Public Schools for many years. He also worked for Hamilton Farm Bureau and Moore Security. Duane enjoyed the great outdoors; hunting, fishing, trapping, fly fishing and fly tying. He was a member of Sunrise Lions Club in Kalkaska. On Nov. 9, 1946 he married the love of his life, Marjorie Stiers. Together they made their home and lived in Kalkaska for the last 45 years. Duane is survived by his loving wife, his children Jo (Herb) Moir of Mancelona, Jenise (Ken) Root of Kalkaska, Jacki (Burr) Saxton of Temple, Roger (Peggy) Bergey of Mancelona, his brother William Bergey, his sister Divine Barnes, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughter Judith Bergey, his parents, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters. Funeral services will be held Sat. Sept. 10, at 7:30 pm at the Kalkaska Senior Center with Pastor Walt Kreger officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until the time of service. Memorial donation may be directed to the Eden Center at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. Arrangements have been handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
