Dorr LeRoy Mason, 84, of Bellaire, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at home. He was born March 10, 1925, in Bellaire, the son of Delbert and Laura (Wilcox) Mason. In 1942, Dorr enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a paratrooper with the 5th Division. He was wounded on Iwo Jima and sent to Guam, then Hawaii to a rest camp. He rejoined his division and was sent to Japan after they surrendered where they had to blow up artillery dumps in Japan and in the islands between Japan and Korea. He was discharged at Great Lakes in Chicago in January of 1946. On December 12, 1946 in Bellaire, he married Betty Martin who survives. Dorr spent his life as a farmer, bus driver and mechanic. He always had large gardens and enjoyed bow hunting. He was also very involved with the local independent baseball teams. He started making pies a few years ago and after receiving his high school diploma he was known as the Pie Man. Dorr is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, his children Evangeline Mason, Roger (Terry) Mason, Richard (Beth) Mason, Debra (Aaron) Smith, Sherri (Dan) McIntosh, George (Cindy) Mason, Becky (David) Corbin all of Bellaire, Hugh (Shelly) Chase of Fairview, TX, siblings Earl (Doris) Mason, of Bellaire, Zora Smith of North Lewisburg, OH, Beatrice (Willard) Ransom of Remus, and Maxine Babbitt of Gowen, 21 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Thelma (Gordon) Dewey, Glen (Gladys) Mason, Lee (Marguerite) Mason, Carl (Hazel) Mason, Gladys (John) Matthews, Hilda (Bill) Bradshaw, Dorothy (George) Bailey, Ruth (Ira) Cornett, Virgil (Carol) Mason and Doris (Tom) Morlan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Eleven a.m. at the Bellaire High School Auditorium. The family will receive friends Friday, October 30, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
