Dorothy Ann Claerhout

Dorothy Ann Claerhout, 72 of Mancelona, passed away on May 1, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born on February 1, 1950 in Flint, MI, the daughter of John and MaryAnn (Bregant) Doyle.

Dorothy started her career in the grocery business at age 16.  She excelled in customer service and greeted everyone with her beautiful smile.  She retired from the retail industry in 2004 after owning and operating Mancelona Family IGA with her husband Ron in Mancelona for eleven years.  She went on to own Curves of Mancelona for three years before retiring completely to be a full time wife, mom and grandma.  

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mom and grandma.  She loved her children and grandchildren dearly; always supporting them and being their #1 fan at countless sporting events.  Dorothy was not only a friend, but a mother figure to all.  Her nurturing personality led her to talk to, and help anyone who was around, regardless of knowing them.  Dorothy loved the water and the lake was her happy place.  

On January 18, 1986, in Flint, MI, Dorothy took Ron's hand in marriage.  They would go on to raise six children together.  

Surviving Dorothy in her death is her loving husband Ronald, brother John (Jeannie) Doyle of Grand Blanc, MI, beloved sister, Yvonne (Mike) Mancik of Troy, MI, six children; Christopher (Sarah) Walker of Fort Wayne, IN, Stephanie (Matthew) Bennett of Mancelona, MI, Amanda (Isaac) Belongia of Mancelona, MI, Matthew (Kristin) Claerhout of Canton, MI, Kevin (Dawn) Claerhout of Bay City, MI, and Todd (Amy) Claerhout of Grand Blanc, MI.  

In addition, there are thirteen special grandchildren that survive Dorothy; Brendyn, Isaac, Matthew, Noah, Emily, Lauren, Megan, Alexa, Ethan, Jackson, Taylor Brayden, and Elle.

Preceding her in death are her parents, sister Patty, son Jason, two grandchildren, Marion and Cameron.

A memorial service will be held May 14, 2022 at 1pm at the Mancelona United Methodist Church, 217 N. Williams St. Mancelona, MI.  A luncheon will immediately follow at Mancelona High School Commons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Munson Hospice.
