Dorothy Theresa Brennan, 94, of Mancelona, passed away on February 22, 2020 at the Eden Center in Kalkaska. She was born on February 28, 1925 in Waterbury, CT and grew up in Pittsburg, PA, the daughter of Jacob and Ann (Charlonis) Kleysteuber.
Dorothy successfully persisted as a divorced single parent in the 1960s in spite of the even more severe stigmas and injustices that were imposed on women during that time. She took evening college courses after work to acquire accounting skills and worked in that field around Detroit for many years before retiring north to Mancelona nearly 50 years ago, where she then hand built her own home while working as a night auditor for several years during her “retirement” at Schuss Mountain.
She was also extremely talented at knitting, sewing, and crocheting and relished outdoor sports such as camping, fishing, skiing and hunting. Dorothy will be remembered as a refreshingly frank and fiercely independent woman.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Liz Tee of Houston, TX, and patrick brennan of New York, NY; four grandchildren, Jacob Corbett, Analise Corbett, Tola Brennan, and SQ Sunseri; and a great-grandchild, Tansley Corbett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Ann Kleysteuber; a sister, Ruth Kleysteuber; and a brother, Bill Kleysteuber.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are in the care of the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
