DORIS M. CARNEY 83, of Central Lake, passed away on April 28, 2009 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. Doris was born on April 11, 1926 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Raymond and Odelia (Plamondon) Smith. Doris had resided Grand Rapids for many years before moving to Central Lake in 1997. She was a member of the Amvets Post 23 in Kentwood for many years. She enjoyed bowling, collecting dolls and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by 4 children, Carol (Steven) Turner of Hawaii, Thomas (Sherry) Carney of Grandville, David Carney of Grand Rapids and Kelley (Victor) Guy of Central Lake. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Raymond Smith of Grand Rapids, Willard (Carole) Smith of Grand Rapids, a sister Ruth Smith of Detroit, a brother-in-law Bob Statton of Rockford,sister-in-law Evelyn Seth, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd W. Carney, a son William Boyd Carney, 3 brothers, Donald Seth, Albert Seth, her twin brother Louis Smith, 2 sisters, Margaret Walters, Grace Statton, a great grandson Austin Carney and her parents. Visitation will take place on Thur., April 30 from 5-8 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will continue on Fri., May 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home in Wyoming, MI. Funeral services will take place on Sat., May 2 at Eleven a.m. also at the funeral home. Pastor Chris Wallace will officiate. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Wyoming.
