Donna Kohs

Donna Kohs

Donna Joy Kohs, 89, of Charlevoix, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at home. She was born December 26, 1934, in Lincoln Park, Michigan during a snowstorm by her Grandmother. She was baptized one month later and became a lifetime Child of God. Donna was the daughter of Leroy and Viola (Schwartz) Bondie.

Donna graduated from Lincoln Park High School, furthering her education with some college. Her career spanned various roles, but she shone brightly during her time as a nurse, specializing in dentistry, surgery, and patient care. This passion for caring also extended to her position as Deputy City Treasurer in Northville, Michigan. Donna was known for her kindness and commitment to those around her, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her leadership qualities were evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Donna was married to Charles "Charley" Kohs on November 27, 1954, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park by a new Pastor who seemed even more nervous than them! She was a cherished neighbor and friend, fostering strong relationships throughout her life. She and Charley ran a tech business in Florida, where her care for customers was evident. Donna's commitment to her faith led her to be an active volunteer in every church she attended, making a positive impact in countless lives. Her life was also impacted during the Great Depression in which they learned about hard times and appreciated what they had. After nearly 70 years of marriage Donna and Charley were great partners. They became one in a strong, loving, lifetime marriage.

Donna enjoyed her travels throughout Europe and California. She cherished moments shared with family while living aboard their sailboat for three summers. She found joy in activities such as golf, girls' basketball, and skiing. Most importantly, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband Charles, along with their children Charles "Ken" Kohs and Carl J. Kohs. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Scott, Lance, Paige, Nick, Cassy, and Zack, as well as her eight great-grandchildren.

Donna was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Joan Reister.

A visitation will take place on Friday, October 11th from 10:30 am until the time of service at noon, at Zion Lutheran Church in Petoskey. Pastor Matthew Peters will be officiating.  For those unable to attend in person, Donna's funeral will also be livestreamed.
