Donald G. Perry 82, of Bellaire, died Sat. March 21, 2009 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with his daughters by his side. Don was born July 27, 1926 in Lansing the son of Vincent and Florence (Williams) Perry. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII and was a survivor of the USS Franklin aircraft carrier, and a lifetime member of the Torch Post VFW #6985 and the National Rifle Association. He worked for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad for 19 A½ years and for Lamina Bronze in Bellaire for 33 A½ years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed flying his piper cub airplane, hunting, fishing, and his best friend Rooney his singing basset hound. On July 19, 1945 in New York he married Joyce Zimmerman who survives. Also surviving are two daughters Donna (David) Pflum of Roscommon, Debrah (Robert) Johnson of Alden, two brothers, Leonard of Flint, Maynard of N. Ft. Myers, FL, a sister Marilyn (William) Dewey of Alden, three grandchildren, Angela Hopkins, Michael Pflum, and Heather Hartl, and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wed. March 25, 2009 at One p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Debrah Johnson and the Torch Post VFW #6985 officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Custer Twp. with military honors.
