Donald A. MacDonald, 93, of Mancelona passed away November 8, 2013 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. He was born June 22, 1920 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of John and Sarah MacDonald.
Don proudly served his country in the Canada Military. He worked in Construction as the Project Supervisor building retail stores. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. He and his wife attended St. Anthony Catholic Church for many years, where he helped in the maintenance of the facilities. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, dancing, crosswords, puzzles and playing cards with friends and spending time with his family.
On July 2, 1955 in Detroit, he married the love of his life, Mary 'Flo' (Campbell) MacDonald. Also surviving are three children, Vincent (Jane) MacDonald, Debbie (Steve) Doherty and Gwen Rusnell all of Mancelona; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John in 1998; and four brothers.
A mass will be Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Dale Magoon officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A Knights of Columbus ceremony as well as Rosary will be prayed at 5:45 Sunday also at the funeral home. Visitation will also take place at the Church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Per his wishes, cremation will take place following the Mass.
