Donald John Leys

Donald John Leys passed away on Friday July 28, 2023 at the age of 88.  He was born in Grand Rapids on July 25, 1935.

   Don is survived by his wife Carol after 66 years of marriage.  He is also survived by his children Raymond (Sandie), Don Jr. (Lorie), and daughter Jill (Eugene) Scheidel, sister Judy Born'e of CO, ten grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents

   Don was in the lab at Smith Industry for 35 years.  He was a member of Carl A. Johnson Post 2 of Grand Rapids for 63 years and Post Commander.

   After retirement he and Carol moved to Torch Lake.  He took part in several Torch Lake Township operations including being a part of the Torch Lake EMS Ambulance for 15 plus years.  Don and Carol belonged to the First Congregational Church of Central Lake.

   Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11^th at 12 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Gary Bekkering officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.  Private interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Eastport.

   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the First Congregational Church, Shepard’s Ministry Team, PO BOX 326, Central Lake, MI 49622.
