Donald Lee Heeres

Donald Lee Heeres, 86 of Bryan, OH, went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2024. He was born April 23, 1937, in Grand Rapids, the son of James and Hattie (Visser) Heeres.

Don was an outstanding tool and die maker by trade and a dedicated employee of Dura Automotive in Mancelona, MI before retiring. He also built homes in northern Michigan. He was involved member at Antrim Church of Christ for many years and helped to build the new church building. He enjoyed singing on the worship team and working at the food pantry.

Don was an excellent woodworker, creating beautiful furniture. He also enjoyed photography. Don was a sought-after soloist and sang tenor in several groups, including the King’s Choralier’s and the Metropolitan Choir of Praise of Grand Rapids, MI. Don even performed with one of his groups at the White House for President Ford.

Surviving are his children Douglas (Ranae) Heeres of Fayette, OH, David (Kathy Beal) of Ellsworth, MI, Duane Heeres of Big Creek, CA, Daniel (Susan) Heeres of Stryker, OH, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, Diane Zundel, Fred Bechtol, Mike Bechtol, Ivan Bechtol, Randy Bechtol, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his brothers Chet and Eugene Drenth.

He was preceded in death by Donna Heeres (mother of his children), his second wife Maxine Heeres, his sister Thelma (Drenth) Koens, his brother Gary Drenth and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 29th at 6 p.m. at the Antrim Church of Christ, Mancelona, MI with the family receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service. Spring interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.

Memorial contributions can be given to the Antrim Church of Christ or the Mancelona Food Pantry.
