Donald Hawver

Donald Roy Hawver, 88, of Mancelona, passed away on February 23, 2023. On January 27, 1935, he was born to Roy and Margaret (Dodsworth) Hawver, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Don was a part of the United States Coast Guard for 4 years. Thereafter, he was an employee for East Jordan Iron Works, where he would eventually retire in 1998. When he was not working, you could find him fishing on a lake, hunting, or trapping in the woods. He enjoyed being in his garage, whether it was making his own baits or just tinkering with different projects. Don loved to go on car rides that consisted of stopping at A&W for ice cream, twice. Don not only loved his family, but definitely his dogs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Shirlee (Richard) Melkonian, Linda Gardner, Nancee Bergquist, and his loving dog Daisy.

Surviving Don in death is his loving wife Nina, five children, Angie Kerr of Charlevoix, Norman Kerr of Mancelona, Diane Kerr of Manistee, Kim Hawver of Boyne City, Dean Hawver of Boyne City, four grandchildren, Nicolas Kerr, Kristina Russell, Amanda Broman, Thomas Sutton, several nieces and nephews and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, from 1-2 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation at 2 p.m. with Brent Bontrager officiating.

A luncheon will be held at the Mancelona Free Methodist Church, 10725 Darragh Rd, Mancelona, MI, 49659.
