Donald A. Havenstein, 94, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Don was born in Taylor, MI, to William and Alma (Koths) Havenstein on Aug. 9, 1926. He was a WWII veteran. He retired from the Wayne County Road Commission and with his late wife, Laura, moved to Bellaire in 1977. He was self employed in the Antrim Co. area for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann McClelland. He is also survived by his daughters, Patricia Emery of Bellaire, Peggy (Mark) Schmidt of Petoskey, and step-daughters Peggy (Jeff) O’Dean of Metamora, MI, and Sarah (Mike) Orr of Ashland, MA. grandchildren Kelly O’Dean, Colin O’Dean, Lily Orr and Molly Orr.
Don was an avid fisherman all his life, a fine saxophone player since the age of 13, and highly skilled custom woodworker. He played in many bands all over Michigan, and started his own local band, “The Reflections”. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and musician companions.
There will not be a public service at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Church In The Hills, Three Lakes Association, or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and interment was in Eldred Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mortensen Funeral Homes.
