Donald Avery

Donald E. Avery, 80, of Traverse City, formerly of Central Lake, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 in Traverse City.

He was born April 27, 1935 to Noel and Dorothy (Evans) Avery in Ann Arbor.

Donald served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood, Texas. He worked as an indoor maintenance mechanic in the heating and cooling business.

On January 1, 1994 he married Betty Wasburn in Echo Township. They lived in Central Lake until their recent move to Traverse City.

Surviving are his wife Betty; children Donald Avery Jr. of Ypsilanti, Vikki (Michael) Guthrie of Cliffton, S.C., Adam Avery of Cliffton, S.C., Todd Avery of Mancelona, Tobe Gauthier of Claire; many children and great-grandchildren; siblings Thomas (Diane) Avery of Traverse City, Stephen (Patricia) Avery of Florida, Nola (Rennie) Crawford of Traverse City; brother-in-law Sanford (Jill) Washburn Jr. of Charlevoix and sister-in-law Billie Washburn of Central Lake. He was preceded in death by brothers Noel Avery, William Avery, Irving Avery, Leo Avery, Charles Avery and Daniel Avery; sisters-in-law Bertha Stinson and Bonnie Beth Tardell.

Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth on Thursday, September 3, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4, at Hastings Funeral Home with the Rev. E. J. Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery, Pleasantview Township.
