Dolores "Elaine" Simonsen

Dolores "Elaine" Simonsen passed away Monday, July 22, 2024. She was born October 24, 1929 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Ankney) Adair.

Known to most as “Grandma”, Elaine was loved by everyone that met her warm smile. She loved spending time at the family bakery, Simonsen’s, making pies and visiting with friends. Her family has wonderful memories of their annual camping trip to the U.P. where she was always prepared with anything they could possibly need. Grandma loved spending time with her grandkids, whether it was teaching them to swim in Florida or tending her garden in Michigan. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

On January 22, 1947, she married Donald Simonsen in Angola, IN, who preceded her in death in 2006. Elaine was also preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Chambers; her siblings, Gordon, James, Duane, David, and Betty; and her grandson-in-law, Jesse.

Their two sons, Daniel and Jim survive, along with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeremy Simonsen of Elmira and his daughter, Hailey, Crystal (Kevin) Schroeder of Newberry and their children, Addison and Kade, Alanna (Anthony) Schnell of Horton and their daughters, Ashlin and Ava, Lara Albrecht of Kalamazoo and her daughters, Heidi, Elsie and Jessie, Tracy (Thomas) Meyer of Lake Zurich, IL and their children Jacob, Maxwell and Abigail.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Charlevoix Community Reformed Church, 109 Elm St., Charlevoix, MI 49720, with pastor Chip Sauer officiating. Friends may visit with Elaine’s family from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00. Elaine will be laid to rest in Undine Cemetery.
