DOLLIE ELAINE WEISER 89, of Mancelona, departed this life on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. Dollie was born on August 29, 1917 in National Mine, Michigan, the daughter of Thomas and Annie (Jones) Paull.
Following graduation from National Mine High School, Dollie attended Western Michigan University and the Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, and earned her Bachelors Degree and obtained her Registered Nursing License in 1939. Dollie worked as a home care obstetrics nurse in the Allegan, Michigan area, which is where she met her future husband, Harold D. Weiser, a pharmacist, who passed away on May 14, 2007. They were married on Valentine's Day in 1942. Dollie also worked in various hospitals, including Atlantic City General, while her husband Harold was stationed there in the army. She later did home care nursing in the Mancelona area and assisted her husband in the operation of Gardner Rexall Drugstore in Mancelona until they sold it in 1966. This past February, Dollie and Harold celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Dollie was a member of the Mancelona United Methodist Church, The Mancelona United Methodist Church Women's Society, The Mancelona Business Girls Organization and the Mancelona Area Historical Society. She thrived at being patient and loving "Grandma Dollie" to her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed winters in Florida, summers on Torch Lake, gardening and attending lunch daily at the Mancelona Senior Center to visit with her many friends.
Dollie is survived by her three children, William "Bill" (Gloria) Weiser of Mancelona, Ann (Barry) Moeke of Mancelona, and Dan (Kim) Weiser of Loveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Amy (David) Derrer, Mike (Kris) Moeke, all of Mancelona, Pamela (Rob) McIntosh of Dewitt, Jim Weiser of Vermontville, Laura (Rob) Hyde of St. Johns and Jason, Jared, and Kristin Weiser, all of Loveland, Ohio. She is also survived by her eleven precious great grandchildren, Wyatt, Kallie, Cody and Garrett Derrer, Braedon and Drew Moeke, Annie and Thomas McIntosh, and Cody, Cameron and Cacey Hyde.
Dollie was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, sisters Gladys Larson and Daisy Donnithorne, brothers Thomas and Norman Paull and infant great granddaughters Ann Marie and Kay Lynn Derrer.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mancelona United Methodist Church. Reverend Steve Weinberger will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 20 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
