Denise Shooks

Denise Lorraine Shooks, 68 of Central Lake, passed away November 28, 2020 at Munson. She was born March 18, 1952 in Detroit the daughter of Robert and Marilyn (Grabe) Cary.

She graduated from Redford High School in 1970 and worked at S. S. Kresge.  She also worked at Antrim County Community Mental Health, Central Lake Public Schools and Belltower Reformed Church.

Denise was very involved in the community.  She was a member of the Central Lake Lioness, Central Lake Historical Society and Eastern Star.  She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, the Cub/Boy Scouts, the Genealogy Club at school, and Rainbow Girls.  Denise enjoyed making wedding and birthday cakes with Darla and Cheri Shooks.

In retirement, Denise liked to travel to see her friends and family.  She would often drive her friends and family to appointments. She loved to go shopping and amassed quite the collection of cherry themed items.

Denise was a longtime, proud member of the Belltower Reformed Church where she and her husband Cal Shooks were married 43 years ago.

Surviving are her sons Matthew (Stephanie) Shooks of Columbus, OH and Daniel Shooks of Ft. Worth, TX, grandchildren Luke, Jacob, and Abigail Shooks, brother Dean (Pam Matson) Cary and sister Sharon (Jerry Tornga) Earle, brother in law Bryan (Barb) Shooks, sister in law Cindy (Randy) Ruis, nieces and nephews Conor Cary, Kevin (Alison) Cary, Adam Cary, Nicole (Ron) Johnson, Andrea Earle, Scott (Julie) Papineau, Amanda (Jeff) Skeel, Beth (John) Tutor, Brad Ruis, and several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Cal.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Private funeral services will be held at the Belltower Reformed Church and interment will be in Southern Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be given to the Good Samaritan Family Services, Moms and Tots, PO BOX 206, Ellsworth, MI 49729.
