Delva Joyce Stewart, 84, of Rapid City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at her home with her beloved family at her side. She was born on January 27, 1941, in Monclo, West Virginia, the daughter of Walter and Virginia (Adkins) Dickerson.
Delva graduated from Wayne High School in Wayne, West Virginia. She was a devoted homemaker as her children were growing up. When they were grown, she worked as an inspector at Saturn Electronics in Rochester Hills for many years – a job which she was very proud of. She even kept her employment badge in her purse until the day she passed.
Delva was a joyful person and found her joy in many of the simple things in life. She enjoyed perusing garage sales, visiting flea markets, and shopping with friends. She had an eye for antiques and spent countless hours restoring and refinishing antique furniture. She also liked to work on crossword puzzles, often buying books full of them. For nearly 20 years, she and her husband Russell enjoyed spending their winters in Pine Island, Florida, where they made many friends and memories.
Delva is survived by her loving husband of nearly 40 years, Russell Stewart; two children, Tresha (Gary) Butterworth of Shelby Twp., and Kelly Dyer of Shelby Twp.; her stepson, Steven (Violette) Stewart of Switzerland; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry (Pat) Dickerson, and Walter Dickerson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Kevin Dyer; her stepson, Bryan Stewart; and four sisters.
Delva’s family has chosen to celebrate her life privately.
