Delbert L. Walker, 85, of East Jordan, graduated to Heaven, on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility. He was born at home on November 5, 1937, in Ellsworth, MI, the son of Lilburn and Edith (Palmer) Walker.
Delbert grew up in Ellsworth, MI as the youngest of ten children. Born completely blind, he attended the School for the blind in Lansing, MI from age eight until graduation. While attending, he learned a classical education and became fond of music and the arts. Delbert could play the accordion, piano, and harp. His knowledge of classical music pieces and composers led to a daily ritual of listening to IPR on the radio. Over the years, his ability to read and type Braille allowed him to consume books and correspond with friends. In his later years, he would read the entire Bible twice a year.
Del enjoyed people! Throughout his life, he lived in many locations, eventually settling into East Jordan for almost two decades. The last four years he lived in Grandvue Medical Care Facility. The friendship, care, and love shown to Delbert at Grandvue brought him great comfort and enjoyment. He was a constant jokester and a good conversationalist. He will be greatly missed.
A Memorial service will be held at Ontario Street Baptist Church in the future. All donations can be made to the Grandvue Medical Care Facility activities department.
Arrangements are in the care of the Ellsworth Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
