Delaney “Jodie” Givens,  69, of Charlevoix , left this world peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on August 30, 2019.

Jodie was born on March 21, 1950, in Lafayette, GA, the son of Joe and Hilda (Skaggs) Givens.

Jodie was a kind and loving soul, always willing to help anyone in need.  His passion was his family whom he loved more than anything.  He especially cherished his time with his lifelong soulmate Peggy (Mousseau).  Him and Peggy lived the “true” love story their entire lives.

He had a lifelong career in excavating and was known as one of the best backhoe operators in Northern Michigan.  He also enjoyed classic cars, nascar, photography, but most of all playing his “left handed” guitar alongside his friends and son Bobby in the band Whiskey Creek.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, stationed in Germany.

On March 30, 1968, in Ironton, he married Peggy Mousseau who survives.  Also surviving are his 2 children, Missy (Gary) Loper, Bobby (Lori) Givens, his grandchildren, Josh (Wendy) Hahn, Corey Hahn, Brie Ann (Chris) Stillwell, Neila Loper, Gavin Loper, Thomas LaVanway, Haley (Greyson) Givens, Karissa Givens, Christopher Givens, Alexa Lewis, Graci Givens and his great-grandchildren, Isaiah Hahn, Isabella Hahn, Jeremiah Whittenburg, Olivia Corp , Addison Clark all of Charlevoix, a brother Edward (Bobette) Givens of Lawton, OK, sister Ann Clark of Mebane, NC, sisters-in-law, Patty Mousseau, Jane (Walt) Mousseau as well as many loved nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Givens and Hilda (Ed) Greene as well as his in laws Robert and Shirley Mousseau, brothers-in-law Bryant and Jimmy.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 4 from 12-3 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with  funeral services beginning at 3 p.m.  Military honors will take place immediately following services also at the funeral home.
