David H. Roberts

David H. Roberts 90 of Bellaire, passed peacefully away on September 29^th in his home at Shanty Creek. He joins his beloved wife of 59 years and high school sweetheart, Barbara L Roberts.  

 

David grew up in Huntington Woods across from the Zoo and loved hearing the lions or a seeing an escaped monkey on his garage.  He attended Royal Oak Dondero H.S. class of 1951.  He then went on to attend Michigan State University for a short while and decided to enlist in the army where he spent 1yr 9 months driving a tank around the German countryside enforcing the peace after WWII.    After serving he re-enrolled at MSU and finished his degree in Mechanical Engineering, and married Barbara on December 12,1955. 

 

David worked for several engineering firms before joining his brother in-law Warne McClelland, who married his sister JoAnne Roberts, to create Hampton Products in Royal Oak which still is in business today, run by one of his sons Jonathan and his wife Jessica Roberts.  The firm is manufacturing representatives for commercial architectural products and commercial office furniture.  David retired in 1999 after many years of success leading to securing Barb and Daves retirement dreams. 

 

In retirement Dave enjoyed skiing in the winter.   He consistently logged over a million feet vertical each year well into his 80's.   He also loved to golf and boat on Torch Lake with Barbara and the kids/grandkids.   Dave and Barb also had a love for travel and went to Europe many times on river cruises where they enjoyed visiting and exploring old churches and castles.   And eating great food and drinking wine.

 

David and Barbara are proceeded in death by their parents and son Charles L Roberts. Charles is survived by his spouse Rose, and two sons Brooks and Ian spouse Kaleigh and great granddaughter Cori. As well two sons Jonathan F Roberts and spouse Jessica and son Foster.  Douglas C Roberts and spouse Mindy and two sons Michael and Griffin.
