David Novotny

David Jeffrey Novotny, 70, of Charlevoix, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 peacefully at his home.

Dave truly loved Charlevoix and was a selfless community leader.  He was always committed to the betterment of the City of Charlevoix. He was very active in local politics for many years. He was the Mayor of Charlevoix from 1990 through 1994. Before and after serving as mayor, he served on the Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, Housing Commission, and was a City Council Representative. Dave loved Venetian and was one of six founding directors of the Venetian Festival Board and served on the board from 1999 through 2010. He was also very involved with the local Boy Scouts. He worked for many years as a sales representative for Wicks Lumber.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Novotny, his father Jeffery Novotny, his brother Jerry Novotny, and his beloved grandfather, Albert Novotny who had a special place in his heart and spent endless time with him as a child.

Dave is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Shelly) Novotny and Scott Novotny. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Chandler, Raigan, and Payton Novotny. He leaves behind his dog Skip who he cared for deeply and was always by his side.  Dave has many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contribution be made to the Charlevoix County Humane Society in his name.

Dave loved softball whether it be playing, umpiring, announcing, or coaching.  He played the game until he was almost sixty years old.  To honor his life and love of the game, a celebration will be held Monday, August 8, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carpenter Street softball field.  Please bring a chair.
