DAVID A. HOEFT, 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 14, 2010 at his home in Torch Lake Village. Dave was born on August 1, 1935 in Gibralter, MI., the son of George and Harriet (McArthur) Hoeft. Dave lived in the Detroit area for many years where he attended Henry Ford College and was employed by Firestone Steel Products in Wyandotte. He summered in Torch Lake Village before moving there permanently in 1981. In 1980 he purchased Torch Bay Marine and continued operating it with his family until 2006. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, was a volunteer for the Torch Lake Township Ambulance for many years and was a member of the Upper Torch Lake Association in Elk Rapids. He enjoyed old cars, boats and golfing. On May 4, 1957, in Trenton, he married Kay F. Lancaster who survives. Also surviving are two children, Virginia (Robert) Hawkins of Grosse Isle, MI., D.J. (Deann) Hoeft of Elk Rapids, 9 grandchildren, Brian, Bradley, Josh, Vey Matthew, Elizabeth, Dillon, Samantha, Mercedes and Andrew. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Hoeft and his parents. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 17 at Eleven a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township. Memorial contributions may be made to A.C. Paws.
