DAVID G. DYKEMA 59, of Traverse City, died on Oct. 3, 2008 at Munson Medical Center. He was born August 26, 1949 in Ann Arbor, the son of Henry and Jean (Geer) Dykema. Dave served in the U.S. Navy as a navigator and was a Vietnam veteran. He felt so fortunate to be living in northern Michigan. He enjoyed sailing his boat "8 Ball", golfing, fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, and his special passion - scuba diving. Dave had a talent for telling tall tales and making people laugh. His career in sales spanned several industries and he was a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors and Home Builders in Traverse City. Dave was an MSU alumna and was a die-hard Spartan fan. On March 1, 1975, in East Lansing, he married Debra Snow who survives. Also surviving are 2 children; Matthew Dykema and Elizabeth Dykema and fiancAC. Nicholas Jablonski, and brothers Pieter (Linnea Cook) Dykema, Paul (Jane) Dykema, Tracy (Tina) Dykema and many devoted friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial celebration of his life will take place on Tues., Oct. 7 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the LaBella Vue (Knights of Columbus), 13424 W. Bay Shore Dr., ( M-22) in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leelanau County Land Conservancy, the charity of one's choice or plant a perennial in his name.
