David Earl Dickinson, 78, of Charlevoix, Michigan, passed away from his earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 27, 2024.
David was born on May 6, 1946 in Grand Rapids, the son of Ray and Mildred (Barnes) Dickinson and grew up in Lyons, Michigan until the age of fifteen when the family moved to Charlevoix. He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1965. He married Karen Olson of Charlevoix on June 24, 1967 in El Centro, California. Karen and David celebrated 57 years of marriage.
He served in the Air Force from 1966-1970 including an 11 month tour of duty in Vietnam. After his military service ended, he worked for 25 years as an electronic and telecommunication technician for Xerox. He ended his work career with Harbor Industries, retiring in 2015. In his retirement, he enjoyed seeing his grandchildren, attending University of Michigan football games, and being outdoors taking care of his garden whenever possible.
David was a member of First Baptist Church of Petoskey (formerly Parr Memorial) for 47 years. Through the years, he served in various roles including Sunday School teacher, Awana Leader and Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; three children, Eric (Heather) Dickinson of Grand Rapids, MI, Matthew (Katie) Dickinson of Carson City, NV, Stephanie (Allen) Brooks of Ann Arbor, MI; two grandchildren, Andrew and Tyler Dickinson; his sister, Ruth Ann (Charles) Alber of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law Dorothy, Genny, Iva and Lois Dickinson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Art, Floyd, Duane and Fred, and his in-laws Robert and Agnes Olson.
Visitation will take place at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes on Monday, December 30, from 5-6 pm.
Interment will take place in the spring.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Petoskey (1250 Atkins Rd. Petoskey, Mi 49770) or the Boyne City Humane Society.
Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
