David Cassel

David L. Cassel, 73, of Mancelona passed away December 19, 2013 at his home. He was born November 22, 1940 in Lansing to LeRoy W. and Carrie E. (Stanton) Cassel. Dave retired from Michigan State University where he worked for over 30 years. At that time he was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Lansing. After retirement, Dave and Mary built their "dream home" in the woods near Mancelona and were members of Bible Baptist in Charlevoix. In 2008, Dave and Mary both became active members of Mancelona Baptist Church. Through the years, Dave served his Lord faithfully. He will be greatly missed. On April 27, 1968 he married the love of his life, Mary L. (Oberlin) who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Deanna Morgan, Julie (Dale) Bowers, Heather Cassel and Debbie (Jeremy) Nemecek; sister, Carolyn Twiss; and several loving grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cliff; sister, Linda; and son-in-law, Rusty Morgan. Funeral services will be Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:30 at the Mancelona Baptist Church with Pastor Dave McCarthy officiating. Visitation will be Friday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of services. A luncheon will immediately follow the services. David will be interred at Coldsprings Township Cemetery in the spring.
