Darwin D. Morris, 83, of East Jordan died June 11, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born February 20, 1932 in Elmira, Michigan, to Artie Darwin and Rena Morris.

In the Fall of 1954 Darwin was asked to the Sadie Hawkins dance by the love of his life, Mary Lou Nyland. On June 22, 1957 they were married in East Jordan, where they resided in Jordan Township.

Darwin was a member of the U.S. Army as a Morse Code Intermediate; he served in Germany during the Korean Conflict for the Army Security Intelligence. After retiring from the Army he worked at Colton's of Mancelona as a machineist; he worked for the East Jordan Creamery as a truck driver, The East Jordan Iron Works, and later as a self-employed builder. He enjoyed trout fishing, deer hunting, camping, spending time with family, army reunions, going to church and church activities. He was a member of the East Jordan United Methodist Church and Jordan Valley VFW Post 7580. Darwin is East Jordan's 2015 Father of the Year.

Surviving are his devoted wife Mary Lou; 4 loving children, Edward Morris of East Jordan, Timothy Morris of East Jordan, James (Clara) Morris of East Jordan, Judy (Todd) Richards of East Jordan; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; identical twin brother and best friend Delwin (Gloria) Morris of East Jordan. He was preceded in death by his sister Fern Morris.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 18 at the East Jordan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Pahl offficiating.
