Daniel Y. Patton

Daniel Patton, 54, of Mancelona, went home to heaven on September 23, 2024 after a motorcycle accident in Mancelona.

Daniel was born in Traverse City, MI, on January 28,1970 to York Patton Jr. and Christine (Still) Patton. Dan lived his entire life in Mancelona, where he married his childhood sweetheart, Rachel Simmonds, on November 24,1989.

Following High School he attended Lake Superior State University where he became a member of the fraternity Theta XI. He then worked for the Glen's Market company for 13 years in various departments.Dan became a firefighter with the Mancelona Township Fire Department in 1993 and served for 15 years, retiring as a Captain.Dan also worked for Mancelona Township Ambulance and Shanty Creek Resorts. He attended North Central Michigan College in 2000 where he received his Paramedic license.He then went to work for Life Link Ambulance and Kalkaska EMS.He left Lifelink to work for North Flight EMS from 2002 to 2020. He spent his final 4 years working for Mobile Medical Response while also attending Online Classes with Liberty University where he received his B.A. in Business Administration and Sales.

Dan was a member of the Michigan DMAT team and was a charter member of Homeland Security. Dan cherished his family, and loved to travel with his beloved wife. His grandchildren especially were his world and he considered all first responders family as well.

He is survived by his wife, his mother Christine (Still) Patton, his daughter Damaris (Patton) (Jon) Spoor and Alysha (Patton) (Jeff) Odom and his six grandchildren Maverick Nerg, Katana Spoor, Nakita Spoor, Serenity Odom, Richter Spoor and Saoirse Spoor. He was preceded in death by his father York Patton Jr., his Grandmother Christina (Wishart) Still, Grandfather Robert Still, Grandmother Ruth (Alexander) Patton, and Grandfather York Patton Sr. 

Dan will be remembered in a memorial service on October 5, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Gaylord E-Free Church in Gaylord, MI with visitation beginning at 12 Noon.  A luncheon will follow the memorial service.
