CORNELIUS "NEIL" REYST, 91, of Central Lake, died on August 28, 2010 at his sons home in Crystal Falls, Michigan. Neil was born on March 3, 1919, in Detroit, the son of Cornelius Sr. and Jennie (Smouter) Reyst. Neil was employed as a police officer for the city of Detroit for 25 years and moved to Central Lake in 1976. He was a long time member of the Central Lake Masonic Lodge #426 where he served as Past Master and Chaplain Emeritus, was a member of Saladin Temple shrine, the Northwest Shrine Club and was also an honorary member of the Bellaire Masonic Lodge #398. He was a member of the Central Lake First Congregational Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed being with his family and spending time with his Masonic brothers. He is survived by two children, Joy (Joseph) Niman of Sterling Heights, MI., Greg (Cindy) Reyst of Crystal Falls, MI., 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. On June 8, 1940 in Ferndale, MI., he married Virginia Mills who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were two sons, Thomas and Ronald Reyst, several siblings and his parents. A Masonic Memorial service followed by a memorial service will take place on Thursday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lake First Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
