Clyde L. Payton, 60 of Central Lake, died Mon. June 10, 2013 at home. He was born Mar. 24, 1953 in Newberry, the son of Charles and Betty (Perry) Payton. Clyde proudly served in the US Navy for 4 years in electronics and nuclear weapons procedures. He worked for 13 years at Bellaire Tool and the past 11 years at Anchor Danly/Lamina Bronze. As a lifelong resident of Central Lake Clyde enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed riding his Harley and gardening. Clyde's favorite time though was spent with his granddaughters. Clyde is survived by his sons Charlie Payton of Interlochen and Kyle Payton of Central Lake. He is also survived by his siblings C. Powers (Marie) Payton of Byron Center, Dean (Lana) Daves of Whitehall, Patricia Carpenter of Central Lake, Sandra (Sonny) Bodley of Central Lake, sister in law Elly Payton of East Jordan, granddaughters Taylor and Paige Payton, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph, and infant sister Rhonda. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Rev. C. Powers Payton officiating. Interment will follow in Southern Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, PO BOX 5228, Traverse City, MI 49696.
