Clarence R. Hartwig, 87 of Central Lake, died peacefully Oct. 1, 2017 at Eastport Care Home.
He was born June 9, 1930 in Wadena, Saskatchewan, Canada to August and Amelia (Rathke) Hartwig. He grew up in Detroit and proudly served stateside as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked as a factory repairman when he came home from the service for several years and moved his family back to Canora, Sask, Canada in 1974.
Clarence went to work as a farmer and grew his homestead to over 800 acres. He loved being a farmer and raised beef cattle and grains. He also loved tractors and had a large collection of John Deere tractors.
Surviving Clarence is his wife of 63 years, Barbara (McClure) Hartwig, his children David (Carmen) Hartwig of Central Lake, Kathy (Barry) Clark, of Saskatoon, Sask, Larry (Sandy) Hartwig of Regina, Sask, grandchildren Michael and Daniel Hartwig of Saskatoon, Sask, Amie (Dave) Shymko, Jennifer (Michael) Newell, and Tom Clark, great grandson Jaxson Newell all of Regina, Sask, close family friend Cynthia (Dale) Brown, of Troy, MI, and his beloved dog Little Bit. He was preceded in death by his 13 brothers and sisters, and his parents.
