Charles “Chuck” A. Meier Sr., age 95 of Charlevoix passed away on August 31, 2017 at his home.
Chuck was born on September 29, 1921 in Covington, Kentucky to the late August and Fannie (Leistner) Meier. Chuck served in the United States Army during WWII as a welder and he was also involved in spent demolitions. He worked for many years at Freedman Artcraft now known as Harbor Industries and retired in 1986. Chuck was also instrumental in establishing Mt. McSauba Ski Resort where he also worked as the manager. He enjoyed playing tennis with his wife, fishing, taking care of his birds and was a wonderful woodworker who even made all of the cabinets for the home he shared with his wife. His greatest joy in life was being surrounded by his loving family.
On November 25, 1948 in Cleveland Chuck married Mary Jaqueline “Jacquie” (Lucas) Meier who survives. He is also survived by his children, Charles “Corky” (Sue) Meier Jr. of Charlevoix, Cheryl (Robert Lynn) Oakes of Doyleston, Pennsylvania, Michael Meier of Charlevoix, Mark Meier of East Jordan, Timothy (Kathy) Meier of Pensacola, Florida, 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating with full military honors. The family will receive guests for visitation from noon until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
