Charles H. Koop, 63, of Williamsburg, passed away at home August 6, 2013. He was born February 23, 1950 in Plymouth, WI to Chester and G. Winifred Koop. Charlie and Christine were to celebrate their 42 wedding anniversary on August 7, 2013. Charlie grew up in Fenton, Michigan. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University double majoring in Pre-Law and Art. And earned his Juris Doctorate from Detroit College of Law. Upon passing the bar, he began his career in private practice before being appointed as Prosecuting Attorney of Antrim County in 1990. During his career, he has served on numerous boards and panels including the Board of Directors of the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan including two terms as President and as a board member of Crime Victim Rights. He has been honored by various groups including IAAI-MAPC as "Co-Arson Prosecutor of the Year -1996", and "Crime Fighter Award" in 2008 from Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Michigan. He was a tireless advocate for victims and their families. He recently wrote in an email, "When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory (becomes) a treasure." He loved life, was living it to its fullest and would hope we would honor him by continuing to live ours to the fullest. Charlie is survived by his wife, Christine; daughters, Haley (Edward "Ted") Elliott of Sterling, Virginia and Sally Koop of Dallas, Texas and son, Charles T. Koop, II of Bad Axe, Michigan; Three sisters, M. Suzanne Wirwick (Ted) of Florida, Diana (Ron) Conklin of Linden, MI, Sally (Tom) Tompkins of Lansing, MI, one brother, Chester (Janet) Koop of Davisburg, MI, and half-sister Cindy Koop of Frankfort, MI; 4 grand-daughters, Katrina, Kassadi, Peyton and Adelyn Elliott; brother-in-law Ralph (Jackie) Blue, sister-in- law Marybeth (Matt) Anderson, as well as numerous very special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother, G. Winifred Koop; father Chester S. Koop and step-mother Mary Koop. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Friday, August 9, 2013 at New Hope Community Church in Williamsburg, MI beginning at 11am. Memorial contributions may be made to The Charles H.
