Charles Franklin Brock, 80, of Charlevoix, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Boulder park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix.
He was born September 20, 1935, in Charlevoix, to Jacob and Ida (Cork) Brock. Charles attended East Jordan High School, then entered the US Army. After serving his country, he graduated from Mott Community College Nursing Program, having trained at Hurley Hospital, earning his Registered Nurse degree.
Charles worked as a private duty nurse around the country, primarily in Los Angeles, Calif., and Miami, Fla. After moving home, he retired from the Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs in 1996, so he could care for his mother.
Charles was a creative and talented artist and enjoyed painting. He was a skilled craftsman and drew plans and built meticulous, detailed, scale replicas of Great Lakes Freighters and Tug Boats from wood.
He enjoyed reading about the Great Lakes Freighters, and shipwrecks.
He is survived by his sisters, Rita (Steve) Skinner of Ubly, Frances, (Burl) Ratzsch of Athens, Tex.; many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 1 pm, Thursday, May 26, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, the Reverend Pamela Lynch officiating. Interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery.
