Chance Corey Owen McDowell, 38, of Holly Hill, FL, formerly of Central Lake, MI, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at home. He was born Dec. 2, 1970, in Traverse City, the son of Paul and Shirley (Shiveline) McDowell. Chance grew up in Central Lake and graduated from Central Lake High School in 1990. After graduation, he moved to The Villages, in Lady Lake, FL and lived and worked there for many years. Two years ago he moved to Holly Hill, FL, and worked at New Life Recovery Project, where he was house manager. Chance was an avid Florida Gator and Steve Spurrier fan. He was a kind, caring person and had a wonderful sense of humor. His greatest accomplishment in life was his daughter, Riley, who survives. He is also survived by his parents Paul and Shirley of Central Lake and The Villages, FL, his brothers Dodd (Jill) McDowell and Colt (Jessica)McDowell; nephew Brooks and niece Morgan all of The Villages, FL; aunts Judy (Robert) Hoopfer of The Villages,FL, Linda (Larry Grise) Lockhart of Central Lake, Thelma Wilcox of Central Lake, uncles LeRoy (Darlene) McDowell of Grand Rapids, Owen (Gail) McDowell of Eastport, many cousins and Riley's mother Raquel of The Villages, FL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his uncles James P. and Chet McDowell, aunt Eloise Payne, and cousin Dhana Lockhart Elsenheimer. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 2, at 11am at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with Rev. David Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 1, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Life Recovery Project, PO BOX 171, Daytona Beach, FL, 32118. The New Life Recovery Project will be having a house dedication ceremony for The Chance McDowell House, on Wed. Oct. 7, at 6pm at 255 Burleigh Ave, Holly Hills, FL.
