CECIL W. PUCKETT, 67, of Mancelona, died on April 20, 2010 at the Ann Arbor Veterans Memorial Hospital. Cecil was born on July 30, 1942, in Mancelona, the son of Frank and Jean (Blair) Puckett. Cecil was raised in Mancelona and graduated from Mancelona High School in 1960. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 22 years retiring in 1981. While in the Navy he served 3 tours in Vietnam and later went on to teach electronics at the Great Lakes Naval Academy. Cecil was a member of the Mancelona American Legion, the Buckley Old Engine Show and was on the Mancelona Village Council. He is survived by a brother, Steve (Penny) Puckett of Bellaire, three sisters, Jean (Nelson) Hoogerhyde of Alba, Paulette (Tim) Schroeder of Whitmore Lake, MI., Mary (John) Craanen of Trenton, MI., and 17 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Sat., April 24 at One p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Ross Corne. Interment with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Visitation will take place (Fri) today from noon to 9:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
