Carolyn Kendle Robbins passed away peacefully at Munson Hospice House on March 14, 2018.
Carolyn was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 1, 1944 to Earl Melvin Kendle and Hazel Lucy Cole Kendle. She believed being born in this country and into the big loving Cole family was the greatest good fortune of her life.
Carolyn was blessed with a wonderful sense of style that was visible in every facet of her life.
Carolyn grew up in Cincinnati where she attended Indian Hill High School, and then the University of Cincinnati College of Business, back when only women were required to take typing. She met her husband, Bob, of 44 years while working with him at the University of Cincinnati in 1974. She began working in the financial industry in 1976 with Midwest Income Investment Company and later formed the first female-owned investment brokerage firm in Cincinnati, Carolyn Robbins Securities.
Carolyn and Bob lived in Cincinnati, Ohio until 1985 where they were actively involved in the Clifton community with their sons, and were avid Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bearcats, Cincinnati Pepsi Marlins, and St. Xavier High School Swim Team supporters. Carolyn also served on the board of the Cincinnati Ballet Company, and UCATS.
From 1985 to 2000, Carolyn worked with Bob in the computer animation business producing work for clients in advertising, television, and feature films, and lived in Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles.
While living in California, Carolyn began playing competitive golf with the Burbank Women's Golf League, and served on the board of California Women's Public Links Golf Association.
In 2000, Carolyn and Bob moved full-time to their home in Alden, Michigan which they had purchased in 1980 and where they spent great family vacation time each summer. Carolyn was one of the founders of the Alden Volunteers and participated in many community activities. She continued to enjoy playing competitive golf in the Shanty Creek Women's League, and the Hawk's Eye League. She was an active participant in the Antrim County Bridge Club, the Bellaire Literary Club, the Traverse City Women's Investment Club, and the Torch Lake Protection Alliance. She was also active in supporting the Read Aloud 15 MINUTES National Campaign and its local Big Box of Books program.
Over the past 10 years, the time she shared with her four grandchildren was some of the happiest moments in her life.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Bob; her sons, David Hall of Detroit, Michigan, and Christopher Hall of Carlsbad, California; her four grandchildren, Hazel, Parker, Lawson, and Chase of Carlsbad, California; her mother, Hazel Cole Kendle of Cincinnati, Ohio; her sister, Candace Kendle (Chris Bergen) of Boca Grande, Florida; and her brother, Kurtis Kendle (Gayle Kendle) of Isle of Palms, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Melvin Kendle, and her brother, Douglas A. Kendle.
Carolyn was overwhelmed with gratitude over the past weeks by the outpouring of love and caring from her friends and family.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held in Alden, Michigan on July 29, 2018.
