Carol Ann Sommer, 81 of East Jordan went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 16, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. She was born June 17, 1937 in Muskegon the daughter of Thomas and Edna (Landry) Wright.
On September 12, 1959 in Whitehall, Carol married Dick E. Sommer. Together they moved north and operated Pleasant Valley Bible Camp for over 40 years. Carol loved children and often surrounded herself with them. In her younger years she worked at the Central Lake preschool in the Children’s Place.
Carol enjoyed reading, playing the piano, all types of music, teaching children and spending time with her family. Her kindness was a blessing to all who knew her.
Surviving Carol is her husband of 59 years, Dick, her children Rick Sommer, Nate (Robin) Sommer, Beth Sommer, Tim (Shalene) Sommer all of Central Lake, sisters Janet (John) Lockner of Cape Coral, FL, Martha DeYoung of Grand Rapids, grandchildren Kyle (Gabby) Sommer, Dylan (Samantha) Sommer, Sophia Sommer, Gabby and Bahley Glenn, Edson Sommer, great grandchildren Diamond and Nyilee Smith, Max Sommer, and a Sommer baby on the way. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson Damien Smith.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 20, at 2 p.m. at the Grace Bible Church in East Jordan with Pastor Dean Blough officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
