He eventually became the sole owner of the company, and his two sons have since taken the reigns. In his younger years he was an avid hunter as well as a founding member of the Michigan Modified Auto Club (MMAC). Members of the club refurbished and raced old hot rods at various locations in the Detroit area. Bud was also an accomplished sailor on the Great Lakes as well as the Atlantic Ocean.
Bud is survived by his six children, Robert (Rafina) Grove of Boyne City, Kathy (Hank) Forger of Phoenix, AZ, Karen (James) Nancekivell of North Oaks, MN, Karol Grove of Brighton, Gary (Cheryl) Grove of Novi, and Kim (Rey) Ramos of Prudenville; thirteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife and mother of his children, Catherine (Coon) Grove; and his second wife, Nancy (Krashowetz) Grove.
A private burial service will be held at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery in Southfield, MI. A memorial service will be held at a later date; details will be announced when they are made available.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Junior Sailing Program of Sail Charlevoix to help local children carry on Bud’s love of sailing.
Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
