Bruce Alfred Mortensen, age 97, was taken home by the angels on April 23rd, 2018. He is fondly remembered by his family as a hard-working provider who taught each of them to be thankful for what they have and to work for what they want. Bruce was a long-time resident of Breedsville, MI, where he and his first wife, Lillian, raised their five children and where he owned and operated his own fuel delivery business. Bruce proudly served in the US Army as a Master Staff Sergeant during WWII in the European Theater.
After Lillian’s sudden passing Bruce resided with his second wife, Maxine in Kalamazoo, MI, for many years. Bruce and Maxine enjoyed retirement together, traveling when they could and spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bruce Mortensen was a proud American, devoted husband, and loving father.
Surviving are his children Stuart Mortensen, Cherri (Mike) Corning, Gary (Sue) Mortensen, Mark (Dotti) Mortensen, Trudy (Dave) Sumner, step-daughter Beth (Don) Hauck, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lillian, second wife Maxine, 3 infant children, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
A graveside service with military honors will take place Friday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at Breedsville Cemetery, Breedsville. The family will receive friends, Thursday, April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at DL Miller Funeral Home, Bangor. Memorial contributions can be given to Arbor Day Foundation, 211 N. Twelfth Street, Lincoln, NE 68502.
