Bruce R Chellis

Bruce Raymond Chellis, 74 of Central Lake, passed away November 10, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones after a valiant health battle with cancer. He was born January 12, 1950 in Charlevoix the son of Walter and Goldie (Wiltse) Chellis.

Bruce was a dedicated volunteer for the Banks and Central Lake Townships Fire and Rescue Departments for over 44 years. He was a deputy for the Antrim County Sheriff’s Department and worked as the County Fire Investigator too. He was also a part of the Traverse City Narcotics team.

Bruce loved farming and the animals. He dedicated most of his life to farming whether it was the family farm, neighboring farms, or whoever needed a helping hand. His happy place was certainly sitting on a tractor (green ones of course). He enjoyed the great outdoors and could often be found hunting or fishing. He also spent many hours with the Antique Flywheelers. Bruce was as loyal as they came when someone needed a helping hand and was a known jokester, putting a smile on many faces. He loved to travel, go to auctions, and spend time with family.

His children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews made him proud and brought much joy to him in his heart. Inspite of Bruce’s medical conditions over the last several years with being on dialysis, he never got down or felt sorry for himself. He would constantly say "I don't have it bad, other people are sicker than I am" and go about his day.

On June 24, 1994 in Bellaire, Bruce married Marianne E. Behling who survives. Also surviving are his sons Travis (Julie) Chellis and Shane (Tana) Chellis both of Ellsworth, brother Steve (Thelma) Chellis of Ellsworth, sister Nadine (David) Sage of Kentucky, 8 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 20, at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake, Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Rev. David Behling officiating.
