Brian Sauer

Brian Andrew Sauer, 37, of Atwood passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020.  He was born on October 29, 1982 in Plantation, FL the son of Steven Sauer and Sandra (Kowalewski) Sauer-Stein.

Brian was raised in Coral Springs, Florida, where he had many friends and family. Growing up, Brian enjoyed playing and watching every type of sport, and was a valued athlete on any team he was a part of. He shared a love of live music with his older brother and attended many concerts over the years. He also enjoyed videogames and had a large group of online friends he played with regularly.

As an adult, Brian worked at Abercrombie & Finch in Florida for several years before moving to Northern Michigan in 2013.  There he worked at several local restaurants and breweries including The Cantina in Charlevoix, where he was a much loved bartender by its patrons.  Brian was a well-known presence in the Northern Michigan Craft Beer community, and volunteered at several festivals and events.

Brian enjoyed living in the area and was a member of the local golfing and bowling league.  Brian liked kayaking and boating on the area lakes, and spending time looking out over Lake Michigan and taking photos of sunsets on Rex Beach. He was known as a “kind soul” and loved animals, especially his three cats (Osker, Mac, and Cheese).

Brian is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sandi Sauer-Stein and Don Stein of Ellsworth, MI; his father and stepmother, Steven and Colette Sauer of Coral Springs, FL; his brother and sister-in-law and niece, Michael, Aimee, and Estella Sauer of Lake Worth, FL; his paternal grandparents, Richard and Elaine Sauer; his grandfather, William Zimmerman Sr.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his cat Cheese.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nancy (Kowalewski) Zimmerman, and his uncle, Jim Sauer.

An outdoor celebration of Brian’s life will be held August 7, 2020 at Biers Brewery, Charlevoix MI from 2pm to 4pm. Further details will be posted on Facebook.
