Bonnie Lou Marie Bills

Bonnie Lou Marie Bills, 84, of Bellaire, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2023 at Green Acres Retirement Living in Fremont, Michigan. Bonnie was born on August 20, 1939 in Charlevoix County, the daughter of Gerald and Winifred (Zoulek) Hawley. She graduated from East Jordan High School in 1957 and went on to complete her education at North Central Michigan College and Central Michigan University to become a laboratory technologist. It was there that she met her husband, Donald Bills, whom she married on September 1, 1962 in East Jordan. After managing the laboratory in Kirksville, Missouri while Don completed his medical degree, Bonnie became a stay-at-home mom to their three children while also volunteering a lot of her time to Girl Scouts, the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce, teaching baton twirling, and the PTA at her kids’ school. Bonnie later worked at Meadow Brook MCF as an insurance biller, and later added the duties of office manager, retiring after 15 years of service.  Bonnie enjoyed gardening all her life, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables that she would share with her family. She was a fan of Nascar and collected Nascar memorabilia, as well as coins, stamps, and Avon plates. She loved to host family gatherings, especially at Christmas, when the grandkids and great grandkids were there to enjoy all the presents.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Dr. Donald Bills of Bellaire, Michigan, daughter, Donna (Kurt) McDowell of Newaygo, son, Rob (Amy) Bills of Calhan, Colorado, daughter-in-law, Janet Bills of Mancelona, sisters, Joan Sherman of East Jordan and Loretta Hawley of Petoskey, Michigan, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Winifred, stepmother, Dody Hawley, son, David Bills, twin sister, Betty Hawley, brother-in-law Jim Sherman, stepsister, Sharon Ketchum, niece, Teresa Scherer, nephew, Kevin Baker, and great grandson, Caleb Gross.

A private family service is being planned.

Donations may be made to Good Samaritan Family Services in Ellsworth, Michigan.
