Beverly Newkirk

Beverly E. Newkirk, 79, of Alden, passed away on January 3, 2016 at her home. Beverly was born on June 7, 1936, in Detroit, the daughter of Edgar and Mary Winfred (Welch) Meacham. Beverly was a longtime resident of Alden, where she moved to in 1994. She was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona where you would find her volunteering for the various groups within the church as well as singing in the church choir. She was an active mom to her children, serving as boy and girl scout leader as well as other activities. On October 31, 1959, in Redford, MI, she married Mark W. Newkirk who survives. Also surviving are the 7 children she raised, Mark (Mary) Newkirk of Warren, Ellen Newkirk of Lake Orion, Glenn (Surproine) of Marshall Islands, Michael Newkirk of Milford, Reo Newkirk, Cary (Zola) Newkirk of Atlanta, GA, Mary (Marty) Belknap of Bryan, OH, as well as a brother Merl Meacham of Lake Orion, 2 sisters, Carole Martin of Port St. Lucie, Fla, Winnie Meacham of Jensen Beach, Fla, as well as 6 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona. Fr. Dale Magoon will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
