Beverly J. (Clark) Moody, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 23, 2024. She was born February 22, 1940 to Zigmond and Elizabeth (Kleinenz) Modzikowski in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised on Beaver Island and moved to Charlevoix as a teenager.
Beverly retired from Texas Instruments in 1995 and then proceeded to enjoy her retirement. She loved hunting and fishing when she was younger, but not so much the older she got. She would work an eight-hour day, come home, take a nap, then go salmon fishing. At midnight the kids would wake up to a tub full of salmon to clean the next morning. Whatever the season was, that is what she did. From canning peaches, vegetables from the garden, to fish in the fall.
Beverly took several trips to the West; one of her favorites was to California to pan gold. She also went North to Canada, South to New Orleans, the Florida Keys, and the Grand Ole Opry. She was a member of the Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers Club out of Walloon Lake/Boyne Falls since 2010. When the ladies of the Club asked her why she wanted to be at the meeting and the show, Bev would reply “I’m not sitting home, why should the men get to have all the fun”. Beverly was also there when her grandchildren were born and she was very proud to watch them grow.
Surviving are 4 children, Terri (Mike) Smith of Charlevoix, MI, Debbie Brown of Central Lake, MI, Leston “Chip” (Jill) Brown of Central Lake, MI, Colleen (Bob) Thorne of Central Lake, MI, a sister Cindy (Tim) Shindorf of Grand Haven, MI, 7 grandchildren, Chris Smith, Kevin Coltson, Robert Brown, the twins: Kaleb Brown and Ashlynn Brown/Coonrod, Eric Sarten, Corey Thorne, Mike Thorne, Cheri Stahl, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Bobbi Jean, and a granddaughter Kelly Marie.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Central Lake, 1085 S. Main Street.
