Betty Jane Schulz, age 90, longtime resident of Atwood, MI, and Northville, MI, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 22nd, 2022, at Covenant Glen Memory Care, in Frankenmuth, MI. Betty was a beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who was born on February 3rd, 1932, in Ohio, and was the only child of Ernest L. and Alma L. Murphy.
Betty graduated Valedictorian from Lincoln Park High School in 1950 and received a scholarship to Michigan State University where she studied art and design and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Betty was the first in her family to attend college. After graduation, she worked for Hudson’s as a buyer in junior dresses. In 1958, she married William E. Schulz, Sr., who preceded her in death (2015), and together they raised four children in Northville, MI. In 1972, they built their summer home in Northern Michigan. This was the scene of numerous get togethers with friends and family.
Betty was dedicated to her family and could often be found helping with homework and cheering on her children’s accomplishments. Betty loved to entertain and was well known for her superb cooking and legendary dinner parties. She loved to draw and paint and many of these works would be displayed in her home. Betty was also an excellent seamstress and even made her daughter’s wedding dress. Later in life, Betty returned to Hudson’s as a salesperson from which she retired years earlier to raise her children. But most importantly, she loved her family and that was her priority in life.
Betty is survived by her daughter Kelly (Keith) Bleyer, daughter Heidi (Kevin) Carnahan, son William Schulz, Jr., and son Robert Schulz. Grandchildren Lauren and Evan Bleyer, and Blake and Brooke Carnahan. She is preceded in death by her husband William Schulz, Sr., and her parents Ernest and Alma Murphy.
