Betty Mason

Betty Marie Mason, 86, of Bellaire, died on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. She was born on April 14, 1926, in Sparta, MI., the daughter of Raymond and Orilla (Hilton) Martin. On December 12, 1946, Betty married Dorr Mason who preceded her in death. She worked at Meadow Brook for 25 years. The day she retired she started working at the Bellaire Laundromat where she worked for 14 years. Betty and Dorr enjoyed spending winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama and attending many of Dorr's Marine Reunions around the country. Besides raising 7 children, Betty and Dorr had so much love to give that from time to time they opened their home to several youngsters who needed a place to stay. Betty is survived by her children, Evangeline Mason, Roger (Terry) Mason, Richard (Beth) Mason, Debra (Aaron) Smith, Sherri (Dan) McIntosh, George (Cindy) Mason, Becky (Dave) Corbin, all of Bellaire and Hugh (Shelley) Chase of Allen, TX., siblings, Bob (Linda) Martin of Conner, Montana, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Esther (Stanley) Pierson of Rockford, Jack (June) Martin of Bellaire, and Joanne (Eugene) Matthews of Mayville. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church with her son Roger officiating. (the service was originally scheduled for the Mortensen Funeral Home in Bellaire) Memorial contributions may be made to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
