Betty Lou Martinchek, 82 of Charlevoix, died August 16, 2019 at McLaren Northern Michigan. She was born May 24, 1937 in Elmira, the daughter of John and Betty (Ballard) James.
Betty loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and being in her garden. Betty was an active member of the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church and played the piano there. She also helped with the church pig roast since its beginning in 1977.
Surviving Betty are her children Debra Martinchek, David (Katherine) Martinchek, Brian Martinchek, and Brenda (John) Morgan all of Charlevoix. Also surviving are her sisters Harriet Hilden of East Jordan, Myra Hoffman of Ellsworth, Marilyn (Jack) Brown of East Jordan, brother Bill (Mary) James of Charlevoix, 4 grandchildren Amy Wolfgang, Angela Bingman, Joey Palmer, Mikayla Martinchek, and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Martinchek in 2017, parents, brother Chuck James and sister Margaret Kubetz.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 21st at 11 a.m. at the Ellsworth Wesleyan Church with Pastor Chris Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 20th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
