Bertram “Bert” Lerchen, 91 of Central Lake died peacefully, April 4, 2018 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
Bert was born Sept. 29, 1926 in Detroit, the son of George and Claria (Bales) Lerchen. After high school he joined the US Navy and proudly served during WWII.
Bert owned Eager Collision Auto Body shop in Detroit for many years. He was self-taught and would teach himself anything he wanted to do. Bert enjoyed golfing, being on the lake and riding on his lawn tractor. He was an active member of the Central Lake VFW, Masons, and Lions. He enjoyed volunteering and spending time serving others. Bert was also a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church.
On Oct. 17, 1970, in Brighton, he married Mary Sue Glasgow who survives. Also surviving are his children Tom (Christine) Lerchen of Saline, Stacy (Michael Galvan) Rowe of Flint, grandchildren Elizabeth Lerchen, MacKenzie (Eddie) Miller, Micheal Landers, Christina Tait, and Heather Glasgow, sister in-law Jeannie Lerchen, and nieces Joy Lynn Albert and Janie Lerchen. He was preceded in death by his brothers George and Robert “Bob” Lerchen and his parents.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be held Monday, April 9, at 1 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Janie Beasley officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Interment will be in Southern Cemetery this spring.
