BERNIE DYKHOUSE 83, of Mancelona, died on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care. Bernie was born on September 9, 1924 in Arlene, MI., the son of William and Esselena (Vanderlaan) Dykhouse. Bernie had resided in Mancelona since 1964 and previously lived in Grand Rapids as well as Kalkaska. He was a truck driver for Spartan Stores out of Grand Rapids for 43 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. Bernie was a member of the Mancelona United Methodist Church, the church board and was a past member of the Mancelona Lions Club. Bernie proudly served in the United States Navy. On Jan. 31, 1959 in Mancelona, he married Patricia "Patti" Kerr who survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Sherrilynn (Don) Teets of Jenison, Lynda (David) Wood of Angola, IN., Bernie (Niki) Dykhouse of Mancelona, Sherry and Richard of Grand Rapids, a brother Dwayne (Tina) Dykehouse of Hudsonville, a sister Yvonne (Don) Van Hoven of Zeeland, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers, John, Ben, Barney and Garrett, 4 sisters, Alice Atherton, Marsha Bunker, Janette Poelman, Gertrude Gadell and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Eleven a.m. at the Mancelona United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert G. Wood and Rev. Steve Weinberger will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Visitation will take place today from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
