Bernice "Bunnie" Watson Goss 90
Bunnie Goss passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, surrounded by family at the American House in Charlevoix. Bunnie was born April 12, 1926, to Charles and Grace (Kimball) Watson in Flint, Michigan, the third of four girls. Growing up, her family was very involved in the Salvation Army Church and Bunnie played in the band, which sparked a lifelong love of music. She graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1944. She became a member of the Civil Air Patrol, in Flint, during WWII and took a job with Bishop Flying Service in Flint, moving to Charlevoix in 1944, when they began flights to Charlevoix. She earned her pilot’s license and learned to parachute while employed with Bishop, but later took a job at Brown Motors in Charlevoix and worked there several years. She worked as secretary to the city manager of Charlevoix for many years in the 1960-70's. She then worked seventeen years as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Charlevoix, retiring in 1990. She was a member and past president of the Lake Charlevoix Association in the 1970's and served on the Charlevoix Township Planning Commission for several years.
On November 29, 1949, she married Shelby R. Goss, of Charlevoix, and they were married for sixty-four years until his death in October 2014. Bunnie and Shelby had twenty great years of retirement, living summers and falls in Charlevoix and winters in Florida, until returning full time to Charlevoix in 2011 for health reasons.
Bunnie had three sisters, Evelyn, Margaret, and Marion, and Marion survives.
Bunnie is survived by her four children, Lori (Ken) Carr of Anaheim, Calif., Glen Randy (Sue) Goss of Charlevoix, Barbara (Greg) Falk of Westminster, Md., David (Gloria) Goss of Lakewood, Calif.; and one grandchild, Shelby Lynn Goss (Morgan Hoban) of Oakland, Calif.; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where visitation with Bunnie's family will begin at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Bunnie, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Northwest Michigan, 220 West Garfield, Charlevoix, MI 49720, or to the Salvation Army.
